IT CAME FROM THE SKY: An Introduction

We're delighted at The X-Cast to present a brand new writing project from Rob Kristofferson and a team of talented scribes. I'll leave it to Rob to introduce it below but we hope you join in and enjoy some fabulous, out there stories.

The Truth is in Here

It's romantic to look at the world and think, "something isn't quite right here." It's one of the founding principles of a show like The X-Files, as well as the phrase "I want to believe." It is the skeptics view, but an open skeptics view. A skeptic with the built in tools for belief. While it's all wonderful to think on, where does this type of thinking originate? It's easy to point to one event in the annals of modern history to get the answer.

On July 7, 1947, 70 years ago, an object crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. Controversy still surrounds this event today. The government gave a non-convincing explanation of what crashed in the desert. So unconvincing that it created a skeptical view of one's own government, and how much a person can trust their government. Numerous theories have been explored to explain what happened near Roswell: weather balloon, alien spacecraft with bodies on board, a secret government operation designed to test the human body's reaction to high altitude. Subscribe to whichever theory you like, but we are no closer to having the answer today than we were 70 years ago. It is because of this event that a word like "disclosure" permeates UFO literature and the ufology field in general.

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Roswell crash, a group of writers got together to write a handful fictional stories and a scientific paper positing the mechanics of making space travel possible. This project is known as It Came from the Sky. It did come from the sky, and while we don't know what it is, we all know what we want to believe it was.

We want to believe. This is our belief. We hope you enjoy.
